Exploration & description/Numbers of rainy days

Climatic data analysis has traditionally relied on monthly rainfall to understand annual or seasonal rainfall patterns. More recently, however, it has been shown that, with appropriate software, additional information can be obtained from analyses of daily records. The next part of the exploration therefore concentrates on using daily rainfall records for the preliminary analysis of the specified events.

First we explore whether there has been any shift in the start of the rainy season. The CFU defined ´Start of Rains´ as the first day after 15th November when more than 20mm of rain fell within the day. By ticking the graph option in the Start of the Rains dialog box in the Climatic Menu (see dialog box) and entering the necessary details, a time series plot of the start of the rains can be displayed.
